Ryan Sidebottom is sidelined by injuries

Ryan Sidebottom has been ruled out of England's one-day international against South Africa at Headingley tomorrow.

The Nottinghamshire left-arm seamer has been troubled by hip and groin injuries in recent weeks and missed the Fourth Test at The Oval earlier this month.

Sidebottom passed a fitness test this morning but was unable to bowl in the nets and will not play in the NatWest series opener.

He will be monitored over the next few days to see if he is fit enough for the second match at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

Matt Prior, meanwhile, is determined to make the most of his recall. But before thinking about recapturing his Test place this winter, the Sussex wicketkeeper must make himself a hit with the bat, especially if he opens.

In his 22 one-day internationals, Prior has reached 30 on 10 occasions but advanced to 50 only once. "The frustrating thing is that I've almost always got starts but haven't kicked on," he said.
