Sampras coach quits

Paul Annacone today ended a seven-year spell as Pete Sampras's coach to become managing director of USA Tennis High Performance, where he will be in charge of a programme to develop future American champions.

The 38-year-old said he believed a change of coach could benefit Sampras, who won five Wimbledon titles, two US Opens and one Australian Open in his time with Annacone but struggled last year.

"It's time Pete heard a new voice," said Annacone

Meanwhile, Guy Forget, captain of the victorious French Davis Cup team, beat titleholder Pat Cash 6-7, 7-6, 10-7 (tie-break decider) in the opening match of the Royal Albert Hall's Honda Challenge.
