Sanchez breathes a sigh as Fulham rediscover how to win

As Arsenal and Manchester United painted a masterpiece for a global audience, the only thing concerning Lawrie Sanchez, Steve Coppell and about 22,000 others was the art of survival.

Sanchez was a relieved man as Clint Dempsey and David Healy clinched Fulham's first win since August.

"You don't get carried away with euphoria," said the Fulham boss.

"But when you win it's a relief, you've done your job."

As for Reading, they have a serious travel bug, with only one point from six away games but at least their manager seems happiest when he's miserable.

"There are 1.2 billion people in India who couldn't give a s*** what happened to Reading today," said Coppell.

"We are internally focused. It means an awful lot to us but if you're asking me to start crying and worrying about a defeat, no.

"It's a game of football. Last week everyone was positive and upbeat. This week, I'm not going to walk around with my chin on the floor saying we're going to have a relegation scrap."

Instead, he promised his players would 'roll up their sleeves' and prepare for a visit from Arsenal.

Coppell said: "Arsene Wenger has been there a long time and been allowed to create a formula that you have to say is wonderful to watch.

"He is dealing in art; our reality is a little bit different."

There was little of artistic value at Craven Cottage, where the football made Tracey Emin's bed look good.

Fulham took the lead with a volley from Simon Davies and Kevin Doyle equalised with a simple header.

Dempsey put Fulham back in front and Healy swept in the third in the 90th minute.

Not even Omozusi's dismissal after that could spoil Sanchez's day.
