Norway and Sweden are preparing a joint bid for Euro 2016 that would seriously threaten any Scottish ambitions to host the tournament.

Wales are desperate to enter into partnership with the SFA to put together an attempt to stage the championships. But the Euros, which will almost certainly involve 24 nations by 2016, could be out of Scotland's reach.

Sweden staged the eight-team Euro '92 and now a partnership with Norway could prove attractive to UEFA.

'The thought of bringing the Euros to Norway and Sweden is extremely exciting,' said Karen Espelund, of the Norwegian FA.

Meanwhile, the future of Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine was under serious consideration last night.

UEFA president Michel Platini was in Kiev yesterday for summit talks with the Ukrainian government after meeting Polish leaders on Wednesday.

'All activities in Poland seem to be on track,' said Platini. 'I feel reassured.' Spain and Italy are said to be ready to step in if Poland and Ukraine can't host the event.
