Schools get ready for Standard's Super XV League

London schools are already gearing up for the Standard's Super XV Schools League next year.

And today two major sponsor announced they would be backing the competition, set up by www.SchoolsSports.com.

They are mouthguard makers OPRO and kit suppliers Canterbury NZ. It comes after a spectacular first season for the league, with two of our teams contesting the Daily Mail national final at Twickenham.

Our Team of the Year St Benedict's represented England with distinction in Japan in a world tournament. The team lost only one game, 12-14, to the South African winners who scored in time added.

They were specially kitted out with custom-made OPRO mouthguards - complete with school crest - as part of the Standard prize. Canterbury NZ supplied special training tops for the winning teams.

A spokesman for www.SchoolsSports.com said: "We were delighted to be asked by the Evening Standard to partner them in producing the Evening Standard Super XV Schools League for rugby. It has been a fantastic success, generating great interest for the whole region.

The lads and all associated with them, have done brilliantly. Special congratulations to St Benedicts and all those who made the competition possible."

"We are very much looking forward to supporting the Evening Standard next season with the Super XV Schools League for rugby, as well as a similar league for football."

Canterbury NZ said: "St Benedict's have been the number one team throughout the season and are deservedly team of the year. Supporting grass routes rugby is something Canterbury take very seriously and we look forward to supporting the Evening Standard League in the 2008/2009 season."

A spokesman for OPRO said: "We were delighted to support the Evening Standard and www.SchoolsSports.com in this exciting initiative. OPRO are the world's leading manufacturer of custom-fit mouthguards and are used by the England, Wales and Scotland teams as well every Guinness premiership club."
