Schools rugby: John Fisher stars net our rugby award

John Fisher have clinched the Standard Super 1st XV November Team of the Month award. The Purley team won five of their six fixtures in November, climbing into the top 20.

Paul Sackey's former school began with a third round cup tie against Wimbledon College. Braces from Ben Axten-Burrett and Lee McLaughlin guided them to a 36-3 victory. A narrow 25-17 away loss at Eton College did nothing to dent the character of this John Fisher side, captained by Philip Jones, as they bounced back to record four straight victories.

After beating Dulwich College 17-13 and Judd School 24-10 they travelled to Langley Park School for Boys, who had won 10 consecutive matches. In round four of the cup, John Fisher's defence proved solid in a 12-10 victory. On Saturday they capped a great month with a 17-10 win over the impressive Brighton College, courtesy of two scores from try machine forward Jason Coultman.

In December John Fisher take on Ravens Wood School, Ampleforth College, last year's Evening Standard Team of the Year St.Benedicts, as well as Bishop's Stortford High School in round five of the cup. Ben Axten-Burrett, who scored 41 points in November, will be hoping to continue his fine form towards Christmas.
