Scolari: We are new 'invincibles'

Luiz Felipe Scolari believes Chelsea can emulate Arsenal's "invincibles" and go unbeaten in the League this season.

Chelsea take on title rivals Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday having already amassed 20 points from their first eight games.

Arsenal secured their place in the record books in 2004 when they became the first team to be crowned champions without losing a match.

Chelsea have threatened to show the same level of dominance after winning at Middlesbrough 5-0 last Saturday despite having seven first-team players out to injury. Scolari is confident they can maintain their form for the rest of the season but warns that Liverpool, who are also without a defeat so far, will provide the toughest test yet.

He said: "I think it's possible for us to go the whole season undefeated. But Liverpool are dangerous because they have good players and are very organised.

"They haven't lost a game this season, even though they have been in a bad condition in the last five to 10 minutes of games. But they have fought hard to change the result because they have great spirit and they play as a team, which is what I want for my side.

"I've never come up against Rafael Benitez but when I was coach of Portugal, I always followed games in England and this is the best team he has had. They are competitive and have quality players in every position."

Liverpool have not won the title since 1990 and have failed to come close since Benitez took charge four years ago.

During that time they have failed to score, let alone win, a League game at Stamford Bridge, but Scolari admits the weight of expectation will be on his team this weekend.

He added: "There is pressure for all of the clubs but on Sunday it will be more for Chelsea than for Liverpool. When we play at home, the people and the press put more pressure on the team.

"However, if we win we have a chance to play in the return game at Anfield later in the season knowing that a draw could be a good result."

Scolari also confirmed he has not started planning on making any new signings in January, but hopes to be boosted by the return of midfielder Michael Essien in the New Year.

It was feared Essien would be out until the end of March when he suffered a serious knee injury last month, but Scolari added: "I think he can come to play with us before the doctors said he would. He is working very hard and I wish and I hope that he will come back in the last days of January.

"I am very happy with the squad and don't know if I will need anyone in January. At the moment, all I am thinking about is the next few games."

Ashley Cole may return from a hamstring injury to face Liverpool but Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack and Joe Cole are still expected to miss out.

Salomon Kalou is expected to keep his place in the side after scoring twice in the win over Middlesbrough and says Chelsea are relishing their transformation into the Premier League's great entertainers.
