Scottish champions Celtic complete signing of Samaras from City

Celtic have completed the signing of striker Georgios Samaras from Manchester City.

The Greece international, who spent four months on loan at Parkhead last season, has signed a three-year contract with the Scottish champions.

He said: 'I am really happy with this move and I think both sides are really happy.'

Samaras, a £5million signing by then City boss Stuart Pearce in 2006, moves north of the border for an undisclosed fee

The 23-year-old made 21 appearances and scored six goals as the Hoops won the
Clydesdale Bank Premier League title last season.

He continued: "I wanted to stay here, Celtic wanted to keep me here and both sides are happy with this transfer.

'Last season (at Celtic) was four really enjoyable months for me and a great experience for me to play in both the Scottish Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

'I think we finished in the best possible way, winning the championship and I am really proud of what we achieved.

'It was the best moment in my career so far and I am really happy that I have signed here and I hope that more good moments come for both me and the club.'

He is looking forward to teaming up again with Hoops boss Gordon Strachan.

The former Heerenveen striker added: "Celtic are one of the best teams in Europe with a very distinguished manager.

'His unique way and unconditional desire to see me in his squad persuaded me to sign for the club.

'The same goes for the fans. They showed their support to me and with their dedication and excitement they helped me decide that this is the right club for me.

'The important element for my decision, however, was the fact that there is a family atmosphere around here.

'We all respect each other and help each other, there is understanding and tolerance and these are all necessary ingredients for the success of a club and for the personal development of a football player.

'Finally, I am waiting for the start of the new season so I can help my team to repeat the successes of the last season. With the help of the fans, it is my view that we will achieve great things.'
