Scu's Trixie: A Star to watch but back Art

KAUTO STAR'S attempt to win the Betfair Chase at Haydock for a second time is the highlight of the day but I'll be watching the race rather than having a bet.

His comeback run drew varying reviews but he was by far the best chaser in Britain last season and today we'll see if he can still operate at that level.

Scudamore: Staying away from Kauto Star

The opposition is strong and I'll be fascinated by how the new Haydock fences jump.

They seemed less stiff than the old ones when I inspected the track last week.

That might help Kauto Star with his tendency to give one a thump and I can imagine there may be complaints that they no longer give a true test for a chaser.

Whatever happens to Paul Nicholls' gelding, the champion trainer has a great chance in the £100,000 Betfair Fixed Brush Handicap Hurdle with TARANIS, a top chaser running off a considerably lower handicap rating over hurdles.

The brush obstacles remind me of point-to-point fences and I think that plays into the hands of chasers reverting to the smaller obstacles.

Last year the race was won by subsequent Welsh National hero Halcon Genelardais on his only hurdles outing of the season. He runs again.

I liked what I saw when ART PROFESSOR made a winning debut at Bangor. His stable is really hitting form.

RACING DEMON looks equipped to win the Peterborough Chase for the second year running.
