Sepp's boost for England's World Cup bid

Sepp Blatter has opened the door to an England bid for the 2018 World Cup - by announcing he wants to end rotation of the finals between continents.

FIFA's executive committee are set to approve the move later this month, ending the system that secured the 2010 finals for Africa - given to South Africa - and 2014 for South America, where Brazil were the only bidders.

Under the rotation policy the CONCACAF federation of countries from north and central America and the Caribbean would have been next in line.

But FIFA president Blatter said: "I am advocating we open the market. We are not in a very comfortable situation in South America. We only have one bidder.

"It is better to have three or four associations trying to get the No1 competition of the world."

Russia, China, Australia and the USA or Canada are also likely to bid for 2018.

Blatter also wants to limit the number of foreigners in club teams but UEFA president Michel Platini thinks European law will stop that happening.

"It's impossible," he said. "The free movement of workers is the No1 rule in Europe."
