Serb racists must be kicked out now, urges Dutch coach

Dutch coach Foppe de Haan last night urged UEFA to kick Serbia out of the Under 21 European Championships following the racist abuse dished out to English players on Sunday.

UEFA have deferred judgment on the matter until the tournament is over, even though England have complained directly that centre half Nedum Onuoha was abused by Serbia supporters and full back Justin Hoyte was called a n*****r' by an opponent in the tunnel.

Serbia face Belgium in a semi-final in Arnhem tonight, with the winners playing Holland or England in Saturday's final.

De Haan said: "UEFA have to punish them and give them a big penalty. It is not sport — you do not do it like that.

"Serbs are a bit racist and now each semi-final is starting with this story hanging over it so UEFA have to give them the penalty now. They could end up champions so they have to do it now. They should fast track their judgment."

The president of the Serbian Football Association, Zvezdan Terzic, stepped into the row by criticising the Serbia fans who directed racist abuse at England's black players.

"For all their enthusiasm and patriotism, our fans must understand that outbursts of nationalism and racism will only cause damage to our soccer and our country's reputation," Terzic told Belgrade TV station, B92's website.

"They have to control themselves and be aware that such behaviour will be of no benefit to our team."
