Tottenham have failed in their bid to sign Diego Capel from Sevilla.
The Spanish club have turned down an offer of £12.5million from the north Londoners for the left winger, in a deal that would have involved Sevilla withdrawing two compensation claims.
Wing wizard: Capel of Sevilla has his shot blocked by Steaua keeper Cernea
Sevilla claim that they are owed £3m in compensation from Tottenham for Juande Ramos, who left for White Hart Lane in October, and they have taken action against their former head coach for breach of contract.
Capel, 20, became the Spanish club’s first-choice winger last season, scoring three times.
He made his debut at 16 and helped Spain to win the European Under 19 Championship in Poland two years ago.
He was also part of the team who reached the quarter-finals of the Under 20 World Cup in Canada last year.
