Giantkillers: Bury goalscorers Andy Bishop (L) and Ben Futcher celebrate at the final whistle
Bury, watched by former Wigan boss Chris Hutchings amid rumours of a shock return to management with the League Two strugglers, had gone nine games without a win — a run that led to the decision to part from Casper and director of football Keith Alexander — while Championship opponents Norwich had gone nine matches without defeat.
Bury went two-up in the 61st minute when Andy Bishop finished in style with a low left-foot shot after being put through by Nicky Adams.
Norwich pulled a goal back after 86 minutes when 38-year-old substitute Dion Dublin, who had been sent on at the start of the second half, tapped in Jamie Cureton's header across goal after Lee Croft's effort had come back off a post. But Bury held on to reach the fourth round.
