Showtime for Rooney as United crush Chiefs

IN PRETORIA

Kaizer Chiefs 0 Manchester United 4

Wayne Rooney crowned a typically bubbly performance with a superb goal as Manchester United coasted to victory in the Vodacom Challenge Final.

The England striker displayed his vast repertoire against Kaizer Chiefs, to the delight of thousands of South Africa-based United fans in the sell-out crowd.

Ryan Giggs put United ahead when he crashed in a fierce right-foot shot six minutes before half-time.

United — without homebound pair Rio Ferdinand, whose partner is about to give birth, and Wes Brown following the death of his sister — stepped up the pace in the second half and in the 56th minute Rooney coolly slotted the ball into the net after a great through ball from Danny Simpson.

He then set up a goal for second-half substitute Tom Cleverley, who lived up to his name with a clinical finish in the 62nd minute.

Fraizer Campbell, whose goals on loan at Hull City last season helped them win
promotion to the Premier League, completed the rout five minutes from the end.
