Sidebottom and Mustard miss out as England make changes for Kiwi clash
13 June 2008
England have made two changes to their line-up for tonight's NatWest International Twenty20 against New Zealand as they attempt to build on their Test series victory.
Having already dropped wicketkeeper-batsman Phil Mustard from their one-day plans, England also decided to rest left-arm seamer Ryan Sidebottom for tonight's encounter at Old Trafford.
Rested: Sidebottom will miss the first match of the Twenty20 series against New Zealand following his second innings six wicket haul at Trent Bridge
Test wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose has been brought in for his limited-overs international debut and has been pencilled in to bat at number seven in the order while Ian Bell takes over from Mustard at the top having hit 42 for Warwickshire as an opener against Glamorgan earlier this week.
In-form Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara also returns after missing out on the two Twenty20 victories over New Zealand in the winter and makes his international debut in this form of cricket.
But otherwise England have stuck largely to the line-up that claimed an emphatic 50-run triumph over New Zealand in Christchurch in their last Twenty20 outing.
