Silvestre on brink of £750,000 move from Man United to Sunderland

19 August 2008
defender Mikael Silvestre is on the verge of joining Sunderland in a £750,000 deal.
The French left-back, who has one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, is expected to put pen to paper on a £50,000-a-week deal with Roy Keane's side in the next few days.
Portsmouth and Manchester City were in the hunt for Silvestre who has spent nine years and made 249 appearances for United.
Sunderland-bound: Silvestre will link up again with former team-mate Roy Keane.
Pompey were thought to be unable to afford Silvestre's wages, while the 31-year-old was not keen on playing for United's bitter rivals City.
The former Rennes and Inter Milan defender's decision has decided the opportunity to link up again with former United team-mate Keane, now manager at the Stadium of Light, too good to turn down.
