Sir Alex: Double-hunting United have not missed Neville because Brown has been so good

Sir Alex Ferguson insists Manchester United have not missed Gary Neville this season thanks to Wes Brown.

The 28-year-old signed a four-year deal yesterday having played an integral role filling in at right-back for injured skipper Neville.

Boss Ferguson said: "Wes has done a great job during Gary's absence and has been a major factor in our outstanding defensive performance."

One big reason to celebrate: Wes Brown has cheered Sir Alex

Brown is part of a United side closing in on a double of the Premier League and Champions League with the first leg of their semi-final against Barcelona tomorrow.

Cristiano Ronaldo believes the end of the season will provide fans "a definite answer" to whether this United team are the best ever.

Ferguson revealed recently this is probably the best United squad "in terms of completeness" he has had since taking over at Old Trafford in 1986.

Ronaldo said: "I also think this is the most talented team. Game after game we have shown that we have a fantastic team but at the end of the season we will be able to provide a definite answer if this team is the best United side of all time.

"If we win the Champions League or Premier League we will have a much better idea."
