Ceasefire not an end: Sir Alex Ferguson appeared on the BBC out of respect for Sir Bobby Robson
Ferguson has not spoken to BBC TV or radio since a documentary in May 2004 that probed transfer deals at United involving his son, Jason, then a football agent.
John Magnier and JP McManus, then major shareholders at United, had asked for clarification about transfers and agent payments and Ferguson, furious with the BBC, demanded an apology which the corporation has steadfastly refused to give.
Ferguson has refused all BBC requests for interviews since and a source said: "He agreed to present the award because he is a great friend and has enormous respect for Sir Bobby. It does not signal an end to hostilities."
