Slavia Prague defender Suchy admits he would be tempted by Rangers move

Czech central defender Marek Suchy last night claimed he is the latest transfer target on Walter Smith's summer signing radar.

Rangers are believed to have opened talks with Slavia Prague about the youngster, who starred at the Under- 20 World Cup in Canada a year ago.

Suchy, 20, played a key role as the Czechs finished runners-up in that tournament and he returned to Prague to help Slavia in their first Champions League campaign.

His club are set for another crack at Europe's premier competition after winning the title but he has revealed he would be tempted if Rangers harden up their interest.

'I have to admit I am attracted to playing abroad,' said Suchy. 'I would like to try football in another country and, if it happens, I would be happy to go to Scotland. I do not know anything concrete but I do not want to pretend I have not heard anything.'

Suchy looks an alternative to Motherwell youngster Mark Reynolds, who was the subject of a failed Ibrox bid only last month.

Veteran David Weir, 38, is expected to agree a new deal with Rangers to play on for another season, although there were no talks yesterday with his agent.

Weir has until late next week to decide on the offer with his family still based in England's north-west.

A batch of Rangers players began pre-season training yesterday at Murray Park but others, like Barry Ferguson, Christian Dailly, DaMarcus Beasley and Carlos Cuellar, have been given an extra week off.
