Tough times: Terim's Turkey squad is depleted
Turkey boss Fatih Terim has a host of selection problems ahead of the Euro 2008 quarter-finals - but his players are vowing to set the pace against Croatia in Vienna.
The Turks have goalkeeper Volkan Demirel and Mehmet Aurelio suspended for tomorrow's clash at Ernst Happel Stadium, and Terim has a raft of injury concerns as well.
Emre Gungor has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament, Servet Cetin has been carrying a knock, Emre Asik is recovering from a head injury against Switzerland and Gokhan Zan is not yet fully fit following a knee problem.
Emre Belozoglu and Tumer Metin are also struggling, with hamstring and groin problems respectively.
However, Turkey still go into the clash with confidence following their stunning comeback against Czech Republic to seal a last-eight berth.
They also had to come back from a goal behind to beat Switzerland, and want to seize the initiative when they face Croatia.
Midfielder Mehmet Topal said: 'We do not want to repeat that any more. We want to take the initiative from the beginning.
'We have been disappointing in the first half of our matches but I think this happened because we were trying to spot our opponents' weak spots so we could attack them in the second.'
Defender Sabri Sarioglu added: 'Against Croatia, we will start aggressively, at a high-tempo.'
