Smith at the double as Aberdeen show vintage form in reaching knockout stages of Uefa Cup

Jamie Smith steered Aberdeen towards the knockout phase of the UEFA Cup with a spectacular double at Pittodrie last night.

The Scots, who went into the game bottom of Group B with just one point, knew nothing but a win would do whereas their Danish visitors needed just a point.

But after a nervous first half, which saw Copenhagen's former Chelsea winger Jesper Gronkjaer shoot into the side-netting, the Scottish team produced a stunning second-half show.

Within two minutes of the restart they were in front when Smith fired home from 25 yards. He added a second from 20 yards on 55 minutes.

The Danes' spirit had been broken, and this was highlighted by a Mikael Antonsson own goal on 71 minutes. And it became a rout when Richard Foster made in four in the 83rd minute.
