Snooker stars pay tribute to legend Alex Higgins

Snooker legend Alex "Hurricane" Higgins struggled to cope with the fame and fortune thrust upon him, mourners at his funeral heard today.

Dean of Belfast Houston McKelvey told hundreds at St Anne's Cathedral, including stars from the game, that they were two of the greatest temptations.

A tearful Jimmy White helped carry the coffin of the 61-year-old snooker player who was found dead in a flat last month after a long battle with throat cancer. Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty and Joe Swail were among the mourners.

Higgins became the youngest World Championship winner at his first attempt, beating John Spencer in 1972. He claimed the title for a second time in 1982.
