Snubbed Shaun is set to quit the Bridge
02 May 2008
Standard Sport can reveal that Wright-Phillips feels so unwanted by the manager, he has complained to close friends about feeling ostracised from the rest of the squad due to his lack of playing time.
The England international, who joined for £21million from Manchester City three years ago, has started just four League games since February. The last of those was the 1-0 win at Everton on 17 April, and has made one brief appearance as a substitute in the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
Significantly, he hasn't even been on the bench for the last three games, which have been the biggest of the campaign, against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final and the title clash with Manchester United.
It is a remarkable downturn for the 26-year-old, who was Chelsea's best player at the start of the year when Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel were at the African Nations' Cup.
It is believed his poor performance in the Carling Cup Final defeat to Tottenham was the final straw for Grant, who is frustrated by the winger's inconsistency.
Wright-Phillips has two years left on his contract and Chelsea are looking to cash in on him now, with Tottenham a possible destination as they tried to sign him last summer.
Grant seems certain to keep his job, despite constant speculation, after guiding Chelsea to the Champions League Final for the first time in their history as well as bringing the club level with United in the title race.
