So, where was Sheva?

Andriy Shevchenko plumped for a round of golf at Wentworth yesterday rather than the Champions League final in Athens.

The Chelsea striker opted to play in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am alongside a star studded line-up from the worlds of film, fashion and sport.

Fairway to go: Milan old boy Andriy Shevchenko was invited to the final by his former club but early in the day, the Chelsea striker was rubbing shoulders with Ray Parlour and Lee Dixon at the Wentworth Pro-Am

Looking for the right club: Shevchenko enjoyed his time away from the Premiership with former England and Arsenal defender, Lee Dixon

Playing in a fourball with Ian Poulter, the Ukrainian joined former Arsenal players Ray Parlour and Lee Dixon over the sun-drenched fairways of the prestigious West Course.

As a warm-up to the flagship event on the European Tour, the Pro-Am attracted some of the leading names in golf who played alongside celebrities including Hugh Grant, Jodie Kidd, Nigel Mansell and Aussie rockers Tim Farriss and Garry Beers from INXS who then performed live at the annual Concert on the Course'.

Other teams included Colin Montgomerie who played with Mansell and his two sons, Greg and Leo, and 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie who partnered former footballers Gary Lineker and Mark Bright.

Marking the start of the UK golf season, the BMW PGA Championship has this year attracted seven of the current top 15 players in the world competing for the record £2.9m prize fund including Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Justin Rose and Ernie Els.
