Solano tunes up for English swansong before heading to Los Angeles

Nolberto Solano will consider a short-term deal in England while he waits to learn whether he and David Beckham are set to be team-mates.

Winger Solano is hoping to join Los Angeles Galaxy, the club Beckham features for in Major League Soccer. The English league's first Peruvian player was released from his short-term contract at last month - and he is prepared to leave the country 10 years after arriving to join Newcastle.

Pointing the way: Nolberto Solano is hoping to secure a move to LA Galaxy - but may enjoy one last spell in England first.

Solano, who arrived from Boca Juniors and had a stint with Aston Villa between his two spells at Newcastle, is focusing on his football again after savouring a performance with his 12-piece band The Geordie Latinos in London's Brick Lane at the weekend.

The 33-year-old said: 'I have had some interest from clubs in the Championship but also from over in America at LA Galaxy.

'I'm excited because it looks like there could be something good there for me. The football there is getting better and better all the time and, obviously, it would be great to hook up with top players like David Beckham.'

With America's Major League Soccer season running from March until November, it could be a while before Solano makes his move to the US.

He said: 'I don't quite know yet what will happen but my agent is talking to the Galaxy people and we're hopeful of fixing something up.

'It would be a preferred option for me and I'm prepared to wait but until I hear more I'm still on the look-out for another short-term contract in England.

'I know some people might think, well, he'll be off when Galaxy come calling but if I sign something I'll commit myself to it and I know I can still do a good job here for somebody.'

Solano, who plays trumpet, performed at the Cusquena Pure Peru Independence Anniversary Day Festival yesterday but pointed out: 'It is just my hobby really, although some people are kind enough to praise my playing.

'But all the rest of the band are professionals and we've come together for a few years now - although of course I can never usually turn out at the weekends.'

Leaving the UK would limit those opportunities even further, and Solano said: 'It will be a wrench to leave English football just as it was a wrench to leave all my clubs here - especially Newcastle.

'But even Cristiano Ronaldo would tell you that when you get the chance to go to a big-name club - even after you've been at other big-name clubs - it's very hard for any professional footballer to turn down.'
