Song signs new deal

Arsenal announced today that Alexandre Song has signed a new "long-term" contract.

The 20-year-old Cameroon international originally joined Arsenal from French club Bastia on a season-long loan in 2005, which became a permanent deal the next summer.

After spending a year on loan at Charlton, Song remained with Arsenal last season and made 15 firstteam appearances.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth are refusing to confirm speculation of a £4million bid for Patrick Vieira.

The 32-year-old is at Inter Milan but following the appointment of Jose Mourinho he has been linked with a move. A Pompey spokesman said: "We are being linked to one big name after another. It is bound to happen but we are still not commenting."
