Southgate faces a defensive crisis

Gareth Southgate is facing a defensive crisis for the start of the Premier League campaign, following injuries to five centre backs.

Emanuel Pogatetz is out until Christmas after cartilage surgery, Robert Huth will not return to training until September, Jonathan Woodgate is three weeks away from his comeback, Chris Riggott is a doubt for Saturday's game with Blackburn and Matthew Bates is also out.
