Southgate will take Boro into a new era, says Gibson
06 March 2008
Victory over the Championship side would take Middlesbrough back to Wembley for the semi final and Gibson, whose side have failed to win in their three recent showings at the Stadium, is hoping Southgate can guarantee their Premier League status in the meantime.
The Boro chairman said: "As a team, as a squad and as a club we are moving forward and making progress.
"It is absolutely vital that we stay in the League but I believe we will. Nothing is certain in football but we have enough talent to survive.
"With two years experience behind him and with a bit more support in the transfer market this close season, we could have something very special going on here.
"Gareth is such a young man and such a decent man that you want him to succeed and flourish but there is far more to him as a manager than that.
"I see the work he puts in every week and I know too how much pressure there is at a football club when you are not winning games every week. Gareth has never panicked, he has looked at every situation very coolly and done what has needed to be done."
