Spin demon Warne threatens England with talk of returning for the Ashes

The ominous shadow of Shane Warne may loom over England again next summer after Australia's legendary leg-spinner admitted that he would consider coming out of Test retirement.

Having quit after the last Ashes series 16 months ago, the 38-year-old has since called time on his first-class career with Hampshire to captain Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

He has been a revelation in the Twenty20 tournament — getting into shape, taking 14 cheap wickets so far and leading his men to the top of the table.

Now he has revealed that he could answer his country's call again.

"If there were no other spinners around, and Ricky Ponting said: “Mate, can you please help us out for this one-off tour? We need you”, that is something I would weigh up," said Warne.

"I would still love to be playing international cricket. If you could just turn up and play Test cricket, I would definitely consider that."

However, given that he is no longer playing in the longer form of the game, he admitted that a Test comeback is just a "fairytale" at this stage.
