1961: Fiorentina beat Rangers 2-1 in the second leg of the first European Cup
Winners' Cup final in Milan. The Italian club took the trophy 4-1 on aggregate.

2003: The Rugby Football League banned London winger Dominic Peters for 12
months after testing positive for a banned substance. Halifax's Martin Moana
received a 28-day suspension for another doping offence and a third player,
later revealed to be St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham, was handed a 12-month
suspended sentence. Cunningham had taken a supplement from an approved medical officer.

2004: England batsman Nasser Hussain announced his retirement from all forms of
cricket.

2005: Warwickshire cricketer Keith Piper was banned until the end of the season
following his positive test for cannabis.
