Spurs chief to quit

Tottenham vice-chairman Paul Kemsley is expected to resign from the club's board tomorrow.

The property tycoon is regarded as one of chairman Daniel Levy's closest allies and a driving force behind the club's plans for a bigger stadium.

Kemsley, a lifelong Spurs fan, is understood to be planning to spend more time in the United States where he has growing property interests.

Club sources insist his departure is amicable and the stadium project - which is now overseen by Levy and finance director Matthew Collecott - remains unaffected.

Despite being a close friend of Levy and Spurs' ultimate backer Joe Lewis, Kemsley started to sever his ties with the club last year by quitting the board of the parent company, Tottenham Hotspur plc.

He was then appointed vice-chairman of the football club and showed his influence was still strong by leading a Spurs delegation to meet with Sevilla manager Juande Ramos in August.

The meeting was photographed and Kemsley later apologised for the "damage" caused to Martin Jol.

Kemsley was last week linked with a £250 million takeover move, though the report was dismissed by club sources and his departure is not believed to be connected.

Kemsley is also a friend of former Spurs chairman Sir Alan Sugar and regularly features as one of his aides in TV series The Apprentice.

A Tottenham spokesperson declined to comment but it is understood the club will confirm Kemsley's departure tomorrow when they are expected to reveal strong financial results in their year-end accounts.
