Spurs are keen to find a new No1 to replace Paul Robinson and hope to sign Gomes for £10million this week, as Standard Sport revealed yesterday.

Gomes asked for a transfer after PSV claimed their 21st league title last month, having fallen out with Jan Reker, PSV's managing director.

Reker said: "Tottenham have informed us of their interest. It is true Andreas Isaksson [of Manchester City] is one of the candidates to replace Gomes at PSV but we're looking at other keepers too."

It had been reported PSV turned down a bid of £7m but the clubs are close to an agreement, with Spurs now prepared to meet the asking price of £10m. He will become their third signing of the summer after Luka Modric and Giovani dos Santos.
