Aston Villa centre-half Martin Laursen has been on the Spurs radar for more than a year and has yet to agree a new contract with the Midlands club.

The former AC Milan defender powered in the winning header on New Year's Day to infuriate Tottenham manager Juande Ramos, who is already tired of seeing his side leak soft goals from set-pieces.

Villa may be reluctant to sell as Sweden international Olof Mellberg could also be on his way with Juventus leading the chase for his services.

However, Tottenham may be able to sweeten the pot by offering former Auxerre midfielder Teemu Tainio as part of the deal.
