Spurs get £16m Pav, now for Huntelaar

Tottenham will turn their attentions to signing Dutch striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar once they have secured the transfer of Spartak Moscow's Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Spurs agreed a deal worth around £16million with the Russian club last night and are determined to add at least one more forward - with the Ajax international top of their list - before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Pavlyuchenko has been on Tottenham's wanted list throughout the summer and the Russia star has pulled out of Spartak Moscow's Champions League qualifier with Dynamo Kiev to finalise the switch.

It is understood Spurs officials are in Moscow to continue talks over personal terms, although it is believed the 26-year-old has already accepted a deal worth £30,000 a week after tax.

The club's general director, Valery Karpin, said: "We were obliged to tell the player about interest from a leading English side. An offer like that might come along once or twice in a lifetime."

Pavlyuchenko, who only 24 hours ago said he didn't want to go to White Hart Lane, claims he will soon travel to London to complete the transfer.

He said: "I shall be granted a visa now and, I'll go to England for the signing of the contract."

But Spurs insist the deal is still a long way from completion since the player must pass a medical on his troublesome knee.

Spurs are adamant that the Russian is not a replacement for Dimitar Berbatov, who is desperate to join Manchester United.

The club are also making a major push for Huntelaar and haven't given up on Zenit St Petersburg's Andrei Arshavin and Vedran Corluka from Manchester City.
