Spurs hope Bentley can move to Rovers exit after Ince appointment

Tottenham's hopes of signing David Bentley have also moved a step closer after Paul Ince was named the new manager of Blackburn.

Spurs are favourites to sign the winger as he wants to return to London and is a fan of the north London club, but talks had to be put on hold while Blackburn looked for a new boss.

Now Ince is in charge, Blackburn can start to make decisions on what to do with Bentley and whether to ask for any players in exchange.

The League Managers' Association have confirmed they have given Ince full backing even though the new Blackburn Rovers boss does not hold a UEFA Pro Licence.

The LMA have taken this stance as the Barclays Premier League are allowing Ince a two-year window to gain the qualification.

In a statement, the LMA said: "The requirement for mandatory qualifications for managers to manage in the Barclays Premier League is a rule established by the Premier League and UEFA.

"Where exemptions to this rule are made by the Premier League, the LMA has a duty to support the manager.

"Further, the LMA will work closely with the PFA, the Premier League and The FA to offer all possible support and assistance to its member, in helping him to gain any qualifications that may be necessary."

Tottenham appear to have little hope of signing Spain striker David Villa from Valencia. It has been reported that they have agreed a £20m fee with the financially-troubled Spanish club, but Valencia are asking for over £31m and the striker himself would prefer a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Euro 2008 top-scorer Villa, whose Spain side edged past Italy and into the semi-finals on penalties against Italy in Vienna last night, is quoted as saying: "Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with lots of attraction. Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I have lots of friends there. But it's not something I'm thinking about. My focus now is on making sure Spain do well. This is not the time to be thinking about my personal future."Tottenham appear to have little hope of signing Spain striker David Villa from Valencia.
