Spurs in fight with Newcastle for Giuly

Spurs will are preparing to make a renewed bid for Barcelona wide-man Ludovic Giuly.

Following the arrivals of Thierry Henry and Yaya Toure, there is little room for the 31-year-old Giuly, who was set to join Marseilles.

However, sources at the Nou Camp say that the French club have lost interest as they seek a replacement for Franck Ribery, who has left to join Bayern Munich, and Giuly could be surplus to requirements.

Spurs hope to lure the former France international with the promise of Uefa Cup football, but they could face competition from Newcastle United.

Sam Allardyce is looking to bolster his strikeforce after losing out to West Ham in the race to sign Craig Bellamy from Liverpool.
