Spurs launch last-ditch attempt to sign Arshavin but go cold on Pavlyuchenko

have made a final bid to sign Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg.
The deal looked to have collapsed last week after Zenit demanded £21m for the playmaker. But the two clubs have since got closer to agreeing a fee and are set for more talks.

However, Spurs’ interest in Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has cooled because head coach Juande Ramos is not a great admirer of the Russia star.
Arshavin was the key man as Russia marched to the Euro 2008 semi-finals and also starred in Zenit's UEFA Cup winning campaign last season.
The 27-year-old had been linked with Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal but Spurs remain the only club even close to matching the Russian club's asking price.
