Spurs not a priority for Getafe supremo

Getafe president Angel Torres believes the Primera Liga strugglers should consider resting their first team for next week's UEFA Cup opener against Tottenham in order to concentrate on improving their league predicament.

Getafe are currently second-bottom of the domestic standings with just two points from their opening seven games, leaving the Madrid-based club four points adrift of safety already.

Getafe host promoted Real Murcia this weekend, and if Michael Laudrup's men do not win that match, then Torres feels they should look to use their fringe players for the European trip to Spurs.

"If we win against Murcia we can be more relaxed going to London, but if not there is a list of players from the reserve team who could be used," said Torres in Marca.

"I'm in favour of saving the players for the league."

Getafe, who are playing in their first European campaign, are in Group G of the UEFA Cup alongside Spurs, Anderlecht, Hapoel Tel Aviv and AaB.
