Stephen Hendry aiming to secure elite status in China

Stephen Hendry boosted his chances of keeping his place in the world's top 16 with a tense 5-4 victory over Ricky Walden in the China Open.

The seven-time snooker world champion started the season No6 in the world but has been struggling for form. Hendry, who will face Peter Edbon in the quarter-finals, said: "I am still a long way from being at my best in matches but in practice I am almost there."

World champion Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Xiao Guodong 5-3.
