The Harlequins winger was in fine early-season form before he discovered a previous foot operation had not healed properly and was forced to spend another four months on the sidelines.

He returns for Quins against Northampton on Saturday eager to show England manager Martin Johnson he is over his injury problems.

"A week in rugby is a long time," said Strettle. "If I can reclaim the form I had before I got injured and things don't go too well for other players in the Six Nations then who knows?

"The team that starts the first Six Nations game won't be the one that ends it, If it is, I will be amazed.

"It's just a case of playing your best and circumstances will always dictate you get a chance."

England kick off their Six Nations campaign against Italy on 7 February.
