Sunderland boss Roy Keane wants £50m for players - again

Roy Keane will ask Sunderland's owners for up to £50million to spend on new players in the summer. Keane said: 'We need more in the summer, and that's why I will be looking to buy five or six players for about £40-50m.

'That's the least we need if we want to compete and go to the next level.

Keane: Wants another £50 million to spend

'I spent £35-40m last year but that was on about 14 or 15 players.'

However, Keane will wait until the summer to sit down with chairman Niall Quinn to discuss a contract.

Keane added: 'I've got plenty of money, I don't need to be signing contracts.

'I have another year left and what do contracts mean anyway? In five or six games I'll probably be sacked anyway.'

Speaking in Ireland, Keane gave the thumbs down to Liam Brady's involvement with the national side under new coach Giovanni Trapattoni.

'I don't think he will add anything, apart from being a translator,' said Keane.

Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has told Kevin Keegan he will be given substantial funds to strengthen his Newcastle side only when the club are safe from relegation.

Keegan has insisted he will have the final say in any signings.
