Ten Cate admits 'F-word' row with Terry before final showdown but insists there is no problem between them

Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate has admitted he and John Terry had a huge row the day before the Carling Cup Final defeat by Tottenham.

Ten Cate insisted he and skipper Terry still got on well despite the "emotional" exchange. Both took a full part in yesterday's training session at Cobham which was watched by billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich.

Ten Cate said: "John and I are both kind of emotional but we respect each other fully. We just had a discussion about the intensity of the training session. That is a normal part of the game. There have been a few F-words, no doubt. But that is common in England.

"There was a special tension on Saturday. We have 27 players and three goalkeepers, but only a few of them could play.

"John wanted to have even more intensity in training but I didn't agree as we were just one day before the match. That was all. John and I get on well. John won't disagree."

Boss Avram Grant, meanwhile, had been due to attend the latest stage of his 10-class course to obtain a UEFA Pro Licence, which he requires to continue working in the Premier League and the Champions League.

But Amnon Raz, the chairman of the Israel Coaches Association, said: "Avram Grant rang me on Monday morning and said, 'I can't come because I have too many things to do at Chelsea'. I believe he will catch up on the lessons he has missed but if he misses too many more... he will be out of the programme and will not get his Pro Licence."

Despite suffering just three defeats in 35 matches since he replaced Jose Mourinho as head coach in September, Grant has yet to win over many Chelsea fans. The club just about managed to ride the storm caused by the sacking of the popular Portuguese and Grant, 52, expects to be given more money by Abramovich to spend on new players during the summer.

But should Chelsea - who are still competing for the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup - end the season empty-handed, the pressure on the embattled Grant would certainly increase.
