Terry heading for the top under Capello

On the pitch, the skipper is an inspiration in the Bryan Robson class and, although he might not score as regularly, he still has the knack of coming up with vital goals when his country most need them.
Underpinning his contribution with both England and Chelsea is a defiant spirit that was never more apparent than last night.
Having gifted Germany an equaliser with an uncharacteristic error, he made amends with the kind of headed goal that is the preserve of the boldest players. And this, remember, is the player who thought he had broken a foot against West Brom at the weekend. Meaningless friendly? Not for fearless Terry. His never-say-die attitude has helped Capello restore England's winning mentality - and to demonstrate this improvement in Berlin against a team with a reputation for mental strength is a considerable achievement.
While Capello will be rightly proud that his team became the first to win in Berlin since Brazil in 1973, it is the attitude of the players that will provide him with most satisfaction. Seriously depleted by injuries, England's makeshift team set about the Germans with energy, intensity and discipline.
Players like Glen Johnson, Matthew Upson, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Michael Carrick and Stewart Downing seized a rare first team opportunity with relish. They provided Capello with confirmation that England have strength in depth and they reminded those who question the value of these matches that friendlies have a role to play in team development.
