Terry warns stars they face fight to win back places after Russia win

John Terry has warned star names Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard they are going to have to fight to win their places back in the England team after last night's 3-0 victory over Russia.
The England skipper said the performances of Emile Heskey, Gareth Barry, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Micah Richards in the back-to-back Euro 2008 qualifying wins over Israel and Russia had now given coach Steve McClaren "a massive headache".
Michael Owen scored two goals and Rio Ferdinand added a third last night at Wembley as England moved into second place in Group E.
A win over Estonia next month would stretch the gap over Russia to five points before the two teams meet again, on the artificial pitch in Moscow on 17 October.
With Rooney, Lampard and Owen Hargreaves all likely to be fit by then and David Beckham also in with a chance following his knee injury, McClaren will have difficult decisions to make.
Star performer: Gareth Barry
"The players who have come in have done well and that's great to see," said Terry. "The ones who aren't in the squad have to keep working hard and have that determination to force their way into the squad and the team.
"We will have key players coming back for the next match and that is a decision for the manager to make. There's also a lot of Premier League matches to be played, so injuries could be a factor.
"If everyone stays fit, though, it will be a difficult decision for the manager. We're all feeling the pressure. I know I will have to go back to Chelsea now and really keep playing well because there are other players knocking on the door and wanting my place."
Ball winner: Emile Heskey was immense alongside Michael Owen against Russia
Owen warned that the toughest test is yet to come after reaching 40 goals for England. He said: "Although we beat them 3-0, Russia weren't a bad side and it will be really tough in Moscow.
"They caused us problems and we are well aware of the threat they will possess in a month's time."
Owen captured the man-of-the-match award with his double strike but Terry paid tribute to the Newcastle player's strike partner, Emile Heskey, who terrorised the Russian defence.
Terry said: "Emile has been different class and the partnership he's struck up with Michael has been really special."
