Today started with three clubs battling to avoid the drop in the Barclays Premiership - Sheffield United, West Ham and Wigan.
It ended with the Blades joining Charlton and Watford in the Championship next season, and here we chart the drama which unfolded in the race for survival.
1514: Paul Scharner's left foot shot gives Wigan the lead at Sheffield United - lifting them out of the bottom three and dumping their Bramall Lane opponents into it.
1539: Barely seven minutes after Wigan's defensive kingpin Arjan de Zeeuw leaves the fray because of injury, Jon Stead's brave header from Phil Jagielka's cross gives Sheffield United an equaliser which means Wigan drop back into the bottom three.
1549: Carlos Tevez takes West Ham out of the relegation equation, netting with a low shot on the stroke of half-time at Manchester United.
1552: Phil Jagielka handles in the box, and Wigan's former Bramall Lane defender David Unsworth converts the resulting penalty in first-half injury-time to lift Wigan out of the drop zone at the expense of Sheffield United.
HALF-TIME
1619: The width of a post keeps out a Sheffield United equaliser as substitute Danny Webber strikes the woodwork.
1639: Lee McCulloch picks up a second yellow card for a foul on Blades midfielder Michael Tonge, leaving Wigan a man down in the 74th minute as they battle to defend their lead.
1647: Keith Gillespie strikes the Wigan bar with an attempted cross.
1655: Final whistle goes at Old Trafford - West Ham are safe.
1700: Final whistle at Bramall Lane - Wigan players and chairman Dave Whelan are jubilant, in contrast to their home counterparts.
