Tomorrow heralds the big kick-off in the 2008-09 Championship, one of the world's most fiercely competitive leagues. You can follow regular live updates on all the matches on SportOnline tomorrow, starting with the key lunchtime clash in which title favourites Birmingham host Sheffield United. Here is your guide to all the first day's team news:
Quincy
Birmingham v Sheffield United
Manager Alex McLeish is sweating over the fitness of new signing Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, while Kemy Agustien is struggling with a groin problem. Radhi Jaidi (hamstring) could also miss out. Striker James Beattie is out for Sheffield United as he recovers from knee surgery and Keith Gillespie misses out with a sprained ankle.
Blackpool v Bristol City
Daniel Nardiello (back) and Steve Kabba (Achilles) are out for Blackpool and David Vaughan is awaiting international clearance. Mo Camara could start with Stephen Crainey doubtful with a groin injury. City's Marvin Elliott has succumbed to a knee injury so Cole Skuse is likely to replace him. Injured pair Scott Murray and Jordan Walker are out.
Svensson
Cardiff v Southampton
Tony Capaldi is out for Cardiff as he recovers from knee surgery but Peter Whittingham could be fit after a calf injury. Southampton striker Stern John is suspended and Andrew Davies (knee) is also out but Michael Svensson could make his first appearance since November 2005.
Charlton v Swansea
Goalkeeper Nicky Weaver hopes to be passed fit to play after suffering a knee injury in pre-season. Mark Hudson and Svetoslav Todorov are doubts but definitely missing are Darren Ambrose (hip) and Izale McLeod (knee). Angel Rangel (hernia) and Gorka Pintado (groin) miss out for Swansea.
Morrison
Coventry v Norwich
Clinton Morrison could make his debut for Coventry after signing this week and form an all-new strike partnership with fellow summer recruit Freddy Eastwood. Fellow forward Leon Best (knee) misses out, however. For Norwich, Sammy Clingan, Wes Hoolahan, Dejan Stefanovic, John Kennedy and Arturo Lupoli are set to make their debuts. Gary Doherty (ankle), David Bell (ankle) and Adam Druty (hamstring) are out.
Crystal Palace v Watford
Neil Danns (groin) looks set to miss out for Palace, while Lee Hills is also doubtful. Nick Carle could make his debut for the club. Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd is without goalkeeper Richard Lee (knee) and striker Tommy Smith (groin). Ulises De La Cruz could make his debut in defence.
Derby v Doncaster
Goalkeeper Lewis Price, Lewin Nyatanga and Giles Barnes are injured for Derby. New boy Darren Byfield (hernia) must wait to make his Doncaster derby. Adam Lockwood, Sean McDaid and Gordon Greer are all out injured.
Wright
Ipswich v Preston
Goalkeeper Richard Wright is set to make his second debut for Ipswich, while summer signing Kevin Lisbie could also make his bow for the club. Velice Sumulikoski is fit to play after a foot injury but David Norris (heel) is out. Chris Brown will not be risked by Preston after injuring his hip. The visitors are set to give debuts to Ross Wallace and Barry Nicholson.
Plymouth v Wolverhampton
Simon Walton will play for Plymouth after joining from QPR, while Romain Larrieu and summer signing Graham Stack are both battling for the No1 shirt. New signings Sam Vokes, Richard Stearman, David Jones and Chris Iwelumo are all set to feature for Wolves.
QPR v Barnsley
Rangers will be without suspended trio Samuel Di Carmine, Martin Rowlands and Damion Stewart. For Barnsley, Jamal Campbell-Ryce misses the match after dislocating his elbow, while the club are waiting on international clearance for Miguel Mostto and Hugo Colace.
Sheffield Wednesday v Burnley
Wednesday new boy James O'Connor will face his former club but Jimmy Smith and Franny Jeffers are definitely out. Frank Simek is still recovering from an ankle injury and Peter Gilbert is suspended. For Burnley, Clarke Carlisle is banned but there could be debuts for Martin Paterson, Christian Kalvenes, Diego Penny, Kevin McDonald, Remco van der Schaff and Chris Eagles.
