The coach is counting on him - Valencia say they don't have to sell David Villa

Valencia today told Chelsea they are not prepared to lose David Villa without a fight.

Spain striker Villa, the leading scorer at Euro 2008 with four goals, is a transfer target for the Blues along with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

But Valencia are adamant they don't have to sell Villa.

The club's technical secretary Juan Sanchez said: "He's under contract and the coach is counting on him."

Club president Agustin Morera added: "We should be proud he plays for Valencia and when we read newspapers from Barcelona, Madrid and the rest of the world remember he's our player."

There were fresh reports linking Chelsea with Porto's Ricardo Quaresma over the weekend.

The Portugal winger says he has already agreed to join "a big club" but won't reveal who it is until after Euro 2008.
