(INSIDER'S RATING: 0/5 means this deal's pie in the sky. 5/5 and it's a done deal)
Diouf
El-Hadji Diouf, Bolton to Sunderland - Insider says: 5/5
The controversial Senegal striker is undergoing a medical on Wearside today and, barring an unexpected hitch, will complete his £2.6m move to the Stadium of Light. Diouf will be relieved to find a club willing to take him on having surprised boss Gary Megson by waving goodbye to the fans and embarking on a lap of honour after his last home game in May — ironically against . There has been little interest in the former Liverpool man since, but Roy Keane is anxious to bring in new signings after a frustrating summer in the transfer market, and Megson will not be too disappointed to see the back of Diouf — albeit for half the fee he was initially quoting — with Levante striker Mustapha Riga set to replace him.
Arshavin
Andrei Arshavin, Zenit St Petersburg to - Insider says: 4/5
With Robbie Keane on the verge of joining and Dimitar Berbatov biding his time before becoming a player (ignore misleading claims from Old Trafford that they might walk away from the £22m deal), Spurs are ready to give their supporters some long overdue good news by capturing Arshavin for £17m. Although the Russia forward would prefer Barcelona or a Champions League club in England, Spurs have made by far the best offer and it looks increasingly likely he will have little choice but to accept a move to White Hart Lane having made it clear he will not play again for Zenit.
Coloccini
Fabricio Coloccini, Deportivo to Newcastle - Insider says: 3/5
Kevin Keegan is desperate for new signings, and defenders in particular, so it is no surprise to see Tony Jiminez’s contacts leading Newcastle to another Spanish-based Argentine. The club’s transfer fixer has already helped deliver Real Mallorca winger Jonas Gutierrez, and centre-back Coloccini could be next if the clubs can agree a fee. Deportivo want at least £8m which is not surprising considering they somehow persuaded to part with £10m for Albert Luque three years ago, and Coloccini’s absence from their pre-season tour of Venezuela indicates he is set to leave the club.
Duff
Damien Duff, Newcastle to Blackburn - Insider says: 3/5
Newcastle’s dire need for full-backs has already prompted them to raise their offer for Blackburn’s Stephen Warnock from £2m to £3m, and now former Ewood Park favourite Duff is being thrown in to sweeten the deal. Duff enjoyed his best years at before an ill-fated £17m move to Chelsea and a injury-hit spell on Tyneside, and it appears Keegan is ready to let the Republic of Ireland winger go if it helps solve his defensive problems. Whether Duff fancies a return to Blackburn or Warnock chooses to give up a settled life in Lancashire for the circus that surrounds Newcastle is another matter.
Brown
Michael Brown, to Sheffield United - Insider says: 2/5
Another player being linked with a return to his old club, Brown was at his most effective at Bramall Lane before moving on to Tottenham, Fulham and Wigan. He was replaced as Wigan’s first-choice central midfielder after Steve Bruce brought Wilson Palacios to the JJB Stadium, and is likely to see his opportunities limited this season following Lee Cattermole’s arrival from Middlesbrough. Blades boss Kevin Blackwell worked with Brown when he was Neil Warnock’s assistant and will try his luck with a £2m offer, but it is doubtful the player would want to step down to the Championship at this stage of his career.
