Eagles

Eagles

Chris Eagles, to Burnley - Insider says: 5/5

Eagles will be unveiled as a Burnley player today after accepting he was never going to win a regular first-team place at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson had talked about this summer being a pivotal one for Eagles, and he responded by scoring against Kaizer Chiefs and Portsmouth on United’s tour of Africa. But the 22-year-old had already held talks with Burnley boss Owen Coyle prior to flying out with the United squad, and came to the conclusion that with wide players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Nani and Ji-Sung Park well ahead of him in the pecking order, it was time to move on or risk playing the best years of his career in the reserves. Eagles was not afraid to go out on loan in the Championship at Sheffield Wednesday and Watford and will instantly become a big name at Turf Moor when he agrees a three-year deal. United will net £1.25m from the move.

Inler

Inler

Goekhan Inler, Udinese to - Insider says: 4/5

Arsene Wenger is set to sign the Switzerland midfielder after gazumping Newcastle with a £5m bid. Inler may not be the big name Arsenal fans might want following the departures of midfield trio Alexander Hleb, Gilberto and Mathieu Flamini but he fits Wenger’s blueprint for young, skillful players and caught the eye in a poor Swiss team at Euro 2008. After all, Hleb and Flamini were hardly household names until Wenger signed them. Newcastle miss out but defence is a more urgent concern for Kevin Keegan who will press ahead with deals for Deportivo La Coruna centre-back Fabricio Coloccini, Metz defender Sebastien Bassong, and Blackburn left-back Stephen Warnock.

Barry

Barry

Gareth Barry, to - Insider says: 4/5

Don’t be fooled by the lull surrounding Barry’s move to Anfield or the fact Rafael Benitez has just sunk £19m — roughly the same figure he is being quoted by Villa — into signing Robbie Keane from Tottenham. The Liverpool boss is still determined to sign Barry, all the more so because he feels the England midfielder has been bold enough to demand a move and incur the wrath of Martin O’Neill and the Villa fans. Benitez isn’t about to leave him stranded him now. The question is how raises the £17m fee having failed to offload Xabi Alonso. Steve Finnan will go to Villa as part of he deal, and Benitez is also ready to sell Jermaine Pennant to Blackburn. But having already raised £20m through sales this summer, he will listen to offers for Andriy Voronin and even Dirk Kuyt.

Niemi

Niemi

Antii Niemi, to - Insider says: 3/5

Mark Hughes wants an experienced goalkeeper in his squad alongside Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel, and Niemi certainly fits the bill. The 36-year-old veteran is unlikely to have many first-team opportunities at Craven Cottage this season following Mark Schwarzer’s arrival from Middlesbrough. Perhaps more significantly, he would pose less of a threat to Hart than someone like Brad Friedel. The 21-year-old was known to be unsettled over Hughes’ interest in his former Blackburn keeper before Friedel opted for Aston Villa, and there were concerns that the possibility of relegating Hart  — who earned his first senior England cap earlier this year — to the bench would be detrimental for his blossoming career. Niemi offers cover without the complications.

Fulop

Fulop

Marton Fulop, to - Insider says: 2/5

A deal that looked all but done last week is now in serious doubt because Fulop is demanding too much money. Also, Stoke boss Tony Pulis — who turned to Fulop after losing out to West Brom in the race for Scott Carson — has an alternative option in Thomas Sorenson following his release from Aston Villa. The vastly experienced Danish goalkeeper has impressed while on trial in the Potteries this week and is less likely to drive a hard bargain over personal terms as he looks to extend his career in the Premier League. Fulop seems destined never to play for Stoke. He joined them on loan in February but was recalled four days later without playing a game after Craig Gordon’s other understudy, Darren Ward, was injured.
