Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes cannot wait to start the Premier League season - and is convinced it will be a successful one.
The 27-year-old keeper, signed for £7m from Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven last month, is known for his reflexes and shot-stopping, which have earned him the moniker 'The Octopus'.
Since arriving with the north Londoners in June, Gomes' first month with the club has gone well.
'I'm very happy to have arrived at Spurs, my first impressions of the club are very good and I am looking forward to working hard for the team,” he told Spurs’ official website.
'The Octopus' in Champions League action for former club PSV
'I'm looking forward to playing in the Premier League and I'd love to be the first Brazilian goalkeeper to play in the Premier League. That's a positive goal and I'm looking forward to getting started.
'It was hard to leave PSV because I was there for four good years. I've left a very big club but I've come to another very big club, so I'm looking forward to it.'
Paul Robinson's move to Blackburn means that Gomes is the only senior keeper currently at the club, following Radek Cerny's departure to QPR.
England Under-21 international Ben Alnwick is a possible deputy and Spurs also
made an enquiry about IF Elfsborg's Johan Wiland, according to the Swedish
goalkeeper's agent at the weekend.
